VALJEVO -- Tuesday – Deputy Prime Minister Cedomir Jovanovic has expressed his support for Dragoljub Micunovic’s candidacy for Serbian president, ahead of this evening’s meeting of the governing coalition.
“I would like Dragoljub Micunovic to be the DOS candidate because, among other things, he is the man capable of securing a political atmosphere in the country that would suit both the ruling coalition and the democratic opposition,” Jovanovic told a press conference in Valjevo.
Micunovic is expected to decide tonight whether he will accept the candidacy for November’s elections for Serbian president.
Jovanovic insisted there would be no parliamentary or local election before the end of 2004.

Elections “will succeed” says Natasa Micic | 12:21 | RTS
BELGRADE -- Tuesday – Serbian Parliament Speaker Natasa Micic said last night that the November 16 elections will succeed, despite the previous two failed attempts to elect a Serbian president.
“If the elections fail, they’ll be repeated within sixty days,” said Micic, who as Parliament speaker has been acting president since the beginning of this year.
“I believe that the elections will succeed, they must succeed,” she said, adding that a new constitution for Serbia is also a priority “because of the promises given before the elections and because of reforms”.
Speaking to state media, Micic said that the time had come for building bridges.
“It is time for us all to come to our senses, to rally round the priorities and elect a democratic president regardless of whether his policies are different from those of the government,” she added.
