Interview with Dragan Marsicanin, DSS vice president |
Kostunica will not be a candidate
September 19, 2003 - 'Democratic Party of Serbia is not going to have its candidate at the forthcoming presidential elections. Vojislav Kostunica will not be a candidate', Dragan Marsicanin, DSS vice president said yesterday.
'The reasons for such decision are clear. DSS has been for a considerable time warning that under changed circumstances in relation to the period when according to the Constitution presidential elections had to be called, it is now only necessary to call early parliamentary elections if we want to go out of the current crisis. The purpose of presidential elections is only to postpone elections that Serbia needs the most to go out of the crisis', Marsicanin said.
Q: Will DSS call citizens to boycott presidential elections?
A: 'Before calling of presidential elections DSS has made a plan of positive campaign which is to explain to the citizens what elections we actually need. Within that campaign, DSS shall give its stance on the presidential elections'.
Q: Cedomir Jovanovic called the biggest democratic parties to support DOS candidate?
A: 'That is nonsense. Any support to DOS candidate is out of question. Any for of cooperation between DSS and DOS is out of question, too. This means that DSS is not going to support any candidate'.
Q: What do you think about eventual candidacy of Dragoljub Micunovic?
A: 'If he really cares about that function, this is an excellent opportunity for him to check his rating under conditions that he himself proscribed'.
Q: Is DSS afraid that it might be accused for the eventual failure of elections?
A: 'DOS stance is well-known. There are no unsuccessful elections but only candidates that are unsuccessful'.
Q: Does DSS accept any form of talks with DS or Prime Minister Zivkovic?
A: 'There is nothing to be negotiated about. There is only one issue to be talked about. Talking has been done in case of Declaration on Kosovo and Metohija. There has only one issue left that all political parties should agree about: change of law on elections and calling of early elections'.
Q: Many claim that the future government will be a coalition one consisting of DSS, DS and G17 Plus?
A: 'I do not see any possibility for post-electoral coalition with DS. Judging by acts being done and policy being conducted, DS is no longer a democratic political party'.
Q: What about coalition with G17 Plus?
A: 'Things are crucially different when G17 Plus is concerned'.
